Much to the disappointment of commuters, the opening of Chennai Metro Rail Limited’s (CMRL) phase II stretch from Poonamallee to Vadapalani is likely to be pushed to April.

Though the CMRL received provisional authorisation from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) to operate trains from Poonamallee to Porur (with certain speed restrictions), the CMRS had directed that train operations be permitted in the Porur-Vadapalani stretch only when the 26 deck slabs in the double-decker Alapakkam-Alwarthirunagar stretch (in the corridor 5 section) are built.
