Chennai Metro Rail has completed the tunnel from Light House to Thirumayilai, after nearly two-and-half-years for the phase II project. The tunnel boring machine (TBM) Eagle made a breakthrough at Thirumayilai station on Monday. The 1.98-km stretch between Light House and Thirumayilai is a small part of corridor 4 (Poonamallee to Light House) of the phase II project. The TBM passed below 151 buildings including Light House, All India Radio, Russian Embassy, Dominic Savio School, Rosary Church, and St. Raphael’s School. the TBM encountered difficult geological conditions.
