A model representing Chandrayaan – Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) was unveiled at the Gandhipuram traffic island in Coimbatore city on February 19, 2026 (Thursday). The installation forms part of junction improvement works taken up with private participation.

The model was inaugurated by the former Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Mayilsamy Annadurai, in the presence of District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar and Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran.

Mr. Annadurai said placing a Chandrayaan–PSLV model in a public space would help familiarise students with India’s space missions and launch vehicles. He said it would encourage school and college students to explore opportunities in the space sector.

He referred to initiatives aimed at supporting government school students in science and space-related fields and noted that students were developing projects each year, including experimental rockets tested along the Mahabalipuram coast.

Mr. Annadurai said India’s growth must extend from agriculture to space and identified Kulasekarapattinam as a key location for future space activities. He said the country was moving towards domestic manufacturing of components and launch vehicles.
