The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Thoothukudi, has submitted a memorandum to Southern Railway headquarters, requesting the introduction of various passenger services, including new Vande Bharat sleeper train between Thoothukudi and Chennai and new train services to Mumbai and Hyderabad. The chamber also sought for daily direct nighttime express train between Mettupalayam and Thoothukudi, through Madurai, inclusion of AC coaches in train no 16791 and 16792, Thoothukudi-Palakkad train and daytime train between Thoothukudi and Chennai via Mayiladuthurai on daily basis. In the memorandum, the chamber has mentioned that Thoothukudi has great growth potential, future vision and is considered to preferred destination as setting up various developments such as furniture park, ISRO’s space port in Kulasekarapattinam along with various other major developments at V.O. Chidambaranar Port. It added that the introduction of new Vande Baharat sleeper train between Chennai and Thoothukudi will benefit thousands of people from southern districts, further strengthening the connectivity between two cities, supporting business and trade and port-related activities.
