Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy said that the Central Government has approved the procurement of 1,25,855 metric tonnes of pulses and oilseeds produced by Telangana farmers by paying more than ₹894 crore under the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Expressing happiness that a decision benefiting Telangana farmers has been taken, Mr. Kishan Reddy conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in a press release on Thursday. For the 2026 crop season, the Centre will procure 29,860 metric tonnes of bengal gram (chana), 37,020 metric tonnes of green gram (moong), 55,285 metric tonnes of groundnut, and 3,690 metric tonnes of sunflower seed at MSP, he said. Mr. Kishan Reddy added that such positive measures by the Modi government are helping farmers secure fair income while also encouraging the cultivation of commercial crops. He noted that these initiatives would further support the development of the agriculture sector and strengthen the rural economy. He said the Central Government has, for the past 12 years, been working to make agriculture profitable. Initiatives such as soil testing, subsidised seeds, subsidised fertilizers, and subsidised farm equipment have provided multiple benefits to farmers. In addition to reducing cultivation costs, the government has ensured MSP that is at least 50% to 100% higher than the cost of production, significantly enhancing farmers’ incomes, he said, and claimed that since 2014, the Centre has procured nearly ₹2 lakh crore worth of paddy and ₹70,000 crore worth of cotton from Telangana farmers at MSP.
