The 208th anniversary of the historic Bhima Koregaon victory was celebrated across Kalaburagi district on Thursday.

Leaders of several organisations paid floral tributes to the chief architect of Constitution B.R. Ambedkar at Jagat Circle.

Floral tributes were also offered at the Bhima Koregaon memorial pillar located within the same premises.

As part of the commemorations, various Dalit organisations, including the Bhim Army, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and the Madiga Community Federation, organised a blood donation and health check-up camp. And, mass feeding was organised at various junctions.

Addressing the gathering, Bhima Koregaon Utsav Committee president Vishal Navrang and Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission State president S.S. Tawade, among others, highlighted the historical significance of the Bhima Koregaon victory and its continuing relevance in the struggle for equality and social justice.

Statues of B.R. Ambedkar at Jagat Circle, Hirapur Cross and in various localities across the city were illuminated and decorated with flowers as part of the celebrations.

Later in the evening, Kannada professor from Central University of Karnataka (CUK) Appagere Somashekar delivered a special lecture, drawing attention to the legacy of the Bhima Koregaon battle.
