Every parent waits eagerly for their child’s first words. But when a child does not speak, struggles to make eye contact, does not respond to their name or cannot engage in simple conversations, many families believe it’s a normal delay and do not seek medical help in the initial stages. What they may not realise is that when communication and social interaction do not develop as expected, autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder, may be the reason.
