M.V. Govindan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary and Taliparamba MLA, on Sunday (March 8, 2026) inaugurated the camp office of the proposed zoo-safari park at Nedukani in KINFRA and the Karimbam farm tourism project at the Karimbam District Agricultural Farm, marking progress in two tourism-linked initiatives in the region. Opening the camp office, Mr. Govindan said the proposed zoo-safari park at Nedukani would emerge as one of the most visited destinations for tourists coming to Kerala. The aim is to develop it into the largest zoo-safari park in Asia, placing Taliparamba prominently on the global tourism map, he added. Following the inauguration, a review meeting on the project was held. Mr. Govindan directed officials to complete the valuation and planning of the 252.8 acres of land handed over by the Plantation Corporation of Kerala to the State Museum and Zoo department along the Taliparamba-Coorg State Highway and submit it to the government at the earliest. The meeting also decided to coordinate the preparation and submission of the detailed project report and initiate construction activities accordingly. President of Kurmathur gram panchayat S.P. Ramesh and P. S. Manjuladevi, director of the Zoo department, attended the programme. Mr. Govindan also inaugurated the Karimbam farm tourism project, implemented at the Karimbam District Agricultural Farm at a cost of ₹1 crore. The project has been designed to make maximum use of the farm’s natural terrain and provide visitors with an opportunity to learn about agriculture directly. Facilities created as part of the project include a stone-paved walkway with handrails enabling visitors to walk through the farm, seating arrangements, a dormitory and toilets. The existing entrance gate has also been renovated to make it more attractive, while an open-air auditorium has been constructed on the premises. The project has been planned in a manner that will enable visitors to understand farming practices through digital displays showcasing agricultural experiments and demonstrations. The facility will also be able to host residential camps and related programmes. The inaugural function was held at the auditorium constructed under the project. Binoy Kurien, president, Kannur district panchayat, presided.
