The budding teachers of St. Ignatius College of Education, Palayamkottai, showcased through the tableaux the problems and threats to the society on their college premises here on Friday.

Divided into five groups in the name of ancient Tamil lands – Kurinji, Mullai, Marudham, Neithal and Paalai – the students had exhibited their skill on a range of issues from road accidents often caused by lack of awareness and least respect for road safety rules to the challenges women and the children facing now. The tableaux also provided the right solutions for the problems the society faces now, especially in digital era.

The most interesting aspect of this event was the efforts taken by the organisers in telling the visiting students about the avenues waiting for them in the present scenario apart from the much sought-after field of medicine.

“Since we are coming across the most agonising news of the children ending their precious lives after failing in NEET or due to the fear of NEET, we wanted to tell them about the more lucrative and enviable avenues waiting for them now. Hence, our students, through one of the tableaux, showcased these avenues for them,” said Rev. Dr. L. Vasanthi Medona, principal, St. Ignatius College of Education.

With the women and the children facing problems from the stalkers, online harassers etc., another tableau encouraged the visitors to boldly take-up this issue with the authorities concerned to fight their problems legally and get the offenders punished.

Drug addiction and alcoholism, another dreadful threat to the society, particularly to the younger generation, too found a place.

The event, christened ‘Educate to empower; Inspire to protect’, was jointly organised by St. Ignatius College of Education and Rotary Club of Tirunelveli Suburbs. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli East Vinoth Santharam inaugurated the tableaux in the presence of Rev. Dr. Godwin Rufus SJ, principal of St. Xavier’’s College, Palayamkottai.
