The Backward Classes’ Intellectual Forum has questioned the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for giving party ticket to B. Madhav Reddy for the upcoming municipal elections, a person who went to the Supreme Court opposing the 42% reservation to BCs in local bodies.

Addressing the media at the Secretariat on Friday, Forum leader Chiranjeevulu questioned how the BRS can justify its stand after giving ticket to a person who moved the Supreme Court against enhancement of reservations.

They alleged that the BRS had repeatedly displayed an anti-BC approach during its tenure. Citing the reduction of BC reservations in local bodies from 34% to 23% and failure to fully release budgeted funds for BC welfare, he accused the party of betraying BC interests. They also criticised the BRS for failing to implement the findings of the caste census despite being part of the process.

The BC representatives also targeted all the major political parties, accusing them of being “upper-caste dominated parties” and asked how they could seek BC votes. They alleged that the Congress government failed to utilise even 10% of funds earmarked for BCs over the last two years, despite announcing a ₹1 lakh crore expenditure plan over five years.

Targeting the BJP-led Centre, the organisations demanded that a Bill granting 42% reservation for BCs be introduced immediately in Parliament and included in the Ninth Schedule to provide constitutional protection.
