HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and MLC Dasoju Sravan has appealed to the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to use his good offices to stop monumentalism in the name of Mahatma Gandhi and displacement of the poor in Hyderabad by the Congress Government. In an open letter addressed to Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Sravan said on Thursday that the State Government had proposed the Mahatma Gandhi Sarovar Project with a cost of ₹5,000 crore which includes installation of a 500-foot statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Musi Riverfront. It threatens to become a monument built on the ruins of thousands of homes, he said. Stating that he is addressing the letter to highlight a crisis of conscience unfolding in Telangana, Mr. Sravan said as the champion the ‘Bharat Jodo Abhiyan’ and his politics of empathy (’Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’) Mr. Rahul Gandhi alone could stop Mr. Revanth Reddy from embarking upon a path that diametrically opposes the very values being promoted by him (Rahul Gandhi).
