HYDERABAD

Buoyed by the encouraging results in the Gram Panchayat elections, though held on non-party basis, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leadership is holding combined (erstwhile) district-wise meetings of the party to get ready for the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) or Municipal Elections.

On Friday, a meeting with the combined Karimnagar district leaders of the party was held here by working president K.T. Rama Rao, where he asked them to highlight the 24 months of Congress ‘betrayal’ and failures in the administration to mobilise urban voters’ support for BRS. He stated that the Congress Government did not spend anything on ULBs for the last two years and piled up all sorts of problems for citizens.

He told the party leaders to draw inspiration from the results of Panchayat elections and asked them to plan strategies ULB-wise. Mr. Rama Rao also held a meeting with the party leaders of combined Warangal district. Another meeting with the combined district leaders of Khammam and Nizamabad is scheduled on Saturday.

Changing winds

Stating that a large number of rural voters had supported the BRS-backed candidates in the GP polls despite the inducements and irregularities committed by the ruling party, KTR said that the BRS-backed candidates’ win in over 4,000 GPs (as Sarpanches) was a clear sign of changing winds. People in the rural and urban areas were highly disappointed with the Congress Government and angry against it for not getting any development.
