Harish Rao slammed the Congress top leadership for the scheduled review of the Telangana government’s two-year performance at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday (February 19) calling it ‘a direct affront to Telangana’s pride and the very idea of self-governance’. Taking strong objection to the meeting scheduled to be chaired by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and other senior party leaders from the State, he wrote an open letter on Wednesday. Addressed to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and tagged to senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other AICC functionaries, the BRS Legislature Party deputy floor leader said Telangana was formed after a prolonged struggle for self-rule and self-respect, not to function as ‘a remote-controlled State or as a political outpost’ answerable to periodic approvals from Delhi. Mr. Rao demanded that the Congress leadership first examine its own failure to implement the party’s six-guarantees made during the election campaign in 2023 claiming that 90 % of the guarantees remain unfulfilled even after more than two years. Alleging that the Congress government had failed to honour key promises made to the farming community, including the ₹2 lakh crop loan waiver, enhanced Rythu Bharosa, crop bonus and crop insurance, he said that partial implementation and exclusions had left farmers disillusioned. He also pointed to unfulfilled commitments. On social justice, Mr. Harish Rao said the promised enhancement of reservations for SCs and STs and related procurement benefits had not materialised. He further alleged that several welfare schemes launched by the BRS government were being diluted or discontinued. He also levelled serious allegations of corruption against the State government and warned that Telangana society would not tolerate external control.
