BRS could fade like Janata Party, says Revanth

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the main Opposition, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), would soon disappear because of the ‘arrogant nature’ of its leaders.

He remarked that political parties, however dominant they may appear, are not permanent, drawing a comparison with the now-defunct Janata Party. “The Janata Party has vanished; you (BRS) are nothing before it. Your party will follow suit,” he said, in a direct swipe at the BRS benches.

During the debate on the Motion of Thanks in the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, he took strong exception to the conduct of the Opposition. The Chief Minister said he had expected the principal opposition party to participate constructively and express gratitude for the Governor’s address. Instead, he alleged, it chose to “mock democracy” with what he described as dictatorial tendencies.

Reiterating his political rhetoric, Mr. Reddy declared that he would return to power in 2029 with a resounding victory and challenged the Opposition to test its strength in the next electoral cycle. He also said BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao had managed to win his debut election from the Sircilla Assembly constituency with the ‘support’ of TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu, stating that leadership grounded in goodwill earns electoral success.

The proceedings witnessed repeated sloganeering by BRS members, disrupting the House. Amid the din, the Speaker announced the adoption of the motion thanking the Governor for the address and adjourned the Assembly to Friday.
