HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has called for peaceful protests across the State on Sunday against political harassment of the party founder and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao by the Congress government in the State.

In a statement issued by party senior leaders S. Madhusudana Chary, T. Srinivas Yadav, P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, T. Padmarao Goud, V. Prashanth Reddy, K.P. Vivekanand, M. Krishna Rao, Satyavathi Rathod, K. Prabhakar, G. Balamallu and others asked the party ranks on Saturday to burn effigies of the Congress Government in 12,000-odd villages and municipal towns, bike rallies, black flag protests, rasta rokos and dharna in all constituency headquarters.

They stated that the government was acting with vengeance against the first Chief Minister of the State under whose leadership the decades-long dream of statehood to Telangana was realised. They suggested the party leaders not give any scope for confrontation with the police during the protests and explain the conspiracies of the government, including investigation into the “fabricated phone-tapping case” to people.

In another statement, working president of the party K.T. Rama Rao sought to know what kind of vicarious pleasure those behind the notice to KCR were enjoying by sending the police late in the night on Friday to Nandinagar residence of KCR and pasting the notice to the wall, when KCR himself had written to the investigating officer of the SIT that he was residing at Erravelli in Siddipet district now and all further notices be sent there.

Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao had also requested for his examination at Erravelli since he was over 65 years old and as per the provisions of the Cr.P.C. Mr. Rama Rao said it was nothing but pure arrogance of some police officers and their political bosses to whose tunes they were dancing.

Speaking at Rangadhampalli in Siddipet district, general secretary of the party and former senior IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar alleged that the Congress government was harassing BRS leaders in the name of the phone-tapping case and running it like a daily serial. He stated that the government was doing so to divert people’s attention from its scams such as Singareni overburden tenders, over 9,000 acres land transfer in and around Hyderabad under the HILT policy.
