A bridge constructed on the Hussainsagar surplus drain connecting Chikkadpally with Domalguda was inaugurated by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday.

The ₹6 crore bridge will shorten the travel between Chikkadpally and Liberty junction to mere two kilometres, and facilitate traffic from City Central Library, Ashok Nagar, AV College and Gaganmahal.

GHMC officials said the project would benefit daily commuters, students, and residents by offering a safer and shorter route.

The bridge is 48 metres long and 12 metres wide, and has been designed as a two-lane structure with a 7.50-metre wide carriageway. Footpaths have been provided on both sides to ensure safe pedestrian movement, a statement informed.

Officials noted that the new route is signal-free, enabling commuters to reach key locations such as Liberty Junction and the GHMC Head Office within approximately 10 minutes, thereby easing congestion on surrounding arterial roads.

Mr. Prabhakar said the government is working with a clear intent and planning to strengthen infrastructure in line with the city’s expansion.
