Boys who posted Instagram reels holding machetes warned by police near Chennai

A video of two boys holding machetes, that they had posted on social media, went viral following which Sholavaram Police conducted an investigation.

During the investigation, it was found that the duo who posted the reels on the social media platform Instagram were 17-year-old boys from the Ponneri area in Tiruvallur district. One of them is studying at an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in the Ambattur Industrial Estate, while the other, who could not continue his school education, is working as a daily wage labourer.

Police said the boys had no prior criminal background and that there was no malicious intent behind posting the video. After establishing that both boys had committed the act due to an obsession with making reels, Sholavaram Police Inspector summoned the boys and their parents in person, issued a stern warning, and advised them to use social media responsibly and to refrain from engaging in any activities that violate the law.

Subsequently, the boys were sent home with their parents.
