Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) introduced mobile QR-based Periodical Travel Passes for 1-day, 3-day, and 5-day unlimited travel effective from January 15.

These unlimited travel passes were available only as Contactless Smart Cards (CSC) with a 50 refundable security deposit. QR-based passes have been introduced as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance commuter convenience and promote digital ticketing, BMRCL said.

With the launch of mobile QR passes, passengers can now enjoy unlimited travel without any security deposit, as they are issued digitally on mobile phones.

Key features

There is no security deposit for these passes. Digital passes eliminate the ₹50 deposit required for smart cards.

“These passes are easy to purchase. They can be purchased through the Namma Metro Official app. “On other mobile applications, this facility will be made available shortly,” BMRCL said.

Commuters can scan the QR code displayed on their mobile phones at Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates for entry and exit.

“BMRCL encourages commuters to shift to mobile QR-based passes to save time, avoid queues for card issuance and refunds, and experience a more seamless travel journey. This initiative is another important step towards our vision of a fully digital and commuter-friendly metro system,” BMRCL said.
