Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president P.V.N. Madhav has assured that the dignity and livelihood of traditional potters belonging to Kummari community will be protected and enhanced, emphasising the cultural, spiritual, and historical importance of their profession. Addressing the Shalivahana Sabha and Molla Sanskritika Vaibhavam as the chief guest, Mr. Madhav praised the Kummari community for sustaining a vital and ancient craft that has contributed to human evolution, particularly through the making of earthen pots used in cooking and daily life. “The ability to cook and consume food using clay vessels has played a key role in the intellectual development of human beings,” he said. Referring to history, Mr. Madhav spoke about the legacy of Shalivahana, stating that the Shalivahana era is a symbol of pride, where a person from the potter community rose to kingship and left a lasting mark in history by repelling foreign invasions. He stressed the need to pass on this history to future generations and called for wider recognition of Shalivahana Jayanti as a State festival to enhance the community’s prestige. Earlier, speaking to the media, Mr. Madhav reiterated that pottery is among the earliest professions and forms the foundation of human civilization. “Without the potter’s craft, human life would not have progressed beyond a primitive stage,” he said. He also pointed out that several government orders (GOs) related to the welfare of potters had been neglected and promised that the BJP would work towards reviving them. He emphasised that the Kummari community should not be seen as a weak section but as a strong and resilient group. “The BJP will stand firmly with them and ensure that the government recognises and honours their contributions,” he stated, calling for Statewide consultations with potter associations to address their issues and promote their development. The meeting was presided over by BJP OBC Morcha State president Rongala Gopi Srinivas. Several BJP leaders and representatives from the Kummari community, including Nagothu Ramesh Naidu, Perepi Eswara Rao, Adduri Sriram, Cherukuri Tirupathi Rao, Seggam Srinivasa Rao, and others attended the event.
