Sharmila. Participating in a series of protests under the title, ‘Upaadhi Haami Parirakshana Porata Yatra’ (Employment Guarantee Protection Yatra) at Akkampeta and Kavali in Nellore district on Thursday, and at Pakala village in Prakasam district on Friday, she said that the villagers had complained of not being paid wages on time for the work done under the new scheme. They were not being provided even 50 days of the mandatory 100 days of work, she alleged. “The MGNREGS was born from the aspirations of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. It was started in A.P. as a pilot project in 2006. The scheme contributed to the development of rural areas,” Ms. Sharmila said. “After the BJP came to power at the Centre, it conspired to abolish the scheme in the country. That is why it has brought the VB–G RAM G to put an end to Grama Swaraj,” she alleged.
