Minister for HRD and IT Nara Lokesh on Friday reviewed the construction plans of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani AI Plus Campus in Amaravati. Representatives of BITS Siddharth Banerjee, N. Chennaveer and B.S. Sahani met Mr. Lokesh at his Undavalli residence and presented the plans for the campus. They informed the Minister that the Amaravati campus would offer courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Computational Linguistics and Cyber-Physical Systems, among others. They said the campus was being developed in two phases to accommodate about 7,000 students and that an investment of ₹1,000 crore would be made in the project over the next five years. They said the campus was being designed in line with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, incorporating next-generation technologies. Construction works had already commenced and eco-friendly practices such as green buildings and renewable energy would be adopted. Stating that the Amaravati BITS campus was expected to be the first dedicated AI campus in the country, they said apart from advanced technology courses, programmes related to agriculture, climate and healthcare were also being planned. After reviewing the plans, Mr. Lokesh expressed satisfaction and urged the officials to take steps to ensure that the Amaravati campus was launched at the earliest.
