Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore, will organise a technical discussion on the Indian Standards for offline and online coaching centres on February 24 in Coimbatore.

A press release from the BIS said Coimbatore has more than 250 coaching centres that guide students and support them for various academic and professional examinations. Indian Standard IS 18692:2024 specifies the service requirements at a coaching centre, including staff, design of learning services, assessment of learning, maintenance requirements, safety, and security. This standard applies for any centre that has more than 50 candidates enrolled with it.

The standard IS 19234:2025 is for online coaching programmes, as online coaching provides an opportunity for people living in smaller towns and cities to get access to the best possible learning resources from across the world.

In an era of rapidly advancing technology and an ever-evolving educational landscape, the demand for effective and standardised online coaching services has grown exponentially. The standard specifies the requirements for coaching services provided through online modes but does not include sports, dance, theatre, and other creative activities.

The session will focus on operational and infrastructure requirements, qualification, training and responsibilities of staff, faculty, and design of learning services provided.

The porogramme is for coaching centre proprietors, management representatives and administrators, regulatory authorities, education department officials, quality professionals, online coaching service providers and EdTech platforms, faculty members, academic heads, course coordinators and students.
