The Coimbatore Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan will be conducting its 29th Pongal music festival from January 12 to 16, featuring prominent musicians. The five-day festival will be inaugurated on January 12, during which the prestigious title of “Sangeet Samrat” will be conferred upon carnatic vocalist S. Sowmya, in recognition of her contributions to the field. Additionally, senior musician Meena Subramanian will be honoured with the “Kovai Subri Muruga Gana Award.” The ceremony will begin at 5.15 p.m. A vocal concert by Ms. Sowmya is scheduled for the inaugural day. Subsequent performances will take place each day at 6 p.m. and include Amritha Murali on January 13, Sriranjani Tapasya Santhanagopalan on January 14, the Mysore Brothers—N. Nagaraj and M. Manjunath—on January 15, and a vocal duet by Ranjani and Gayatri on January 16, followed by the presentation of bhajans by the students of Bhavan’s Matric. Hr. Sec. School, R.S. Puram.
