Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka appealed to voters to elect Congress candidates with a thumping majority in the municipal elections across the State, ‘to ensure that development programmes move forward rapidly and welfare benefits reach all sections of society.’

Addressing the media in Madhira town on the final day of electioneering for the February 11 civic polls on Monday, Mr. Vikramarka said the Congress government is following a holistic approach to development by according top priority to education, health, power generation, irrigation and other crucial sectors to propel the State on the path of progress. The key portfolios of Municipal Administration and Education are being directly handled by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy with utmost priority, he added.

The State government sanctioned large-scale Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) across the State to treat sewage. Urban infrastructure development works are under way in various urban local bodies to improve civic amenities, he noted.

The urban local bodies were grossly neglected by the BRS government, he alleged, saying the Congress government, soon after coming to power, laid special focus on developing towns and cities, providing self-employment opportunities to women and youth through skill development initiatives. The ITIs had been upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres, he added.

He said the State government is committed to resolving employees’ issues and is introducing a ₹1 crore accident insurance scheme for employees’ welfare.

Listing out the government flagship schemes, he added that the Congress government is at the forefront of implementing multifarious initiatives to promote women’s economic empowerment, foster entrepreneurship by involving women SHGs in solar power generation among other enterprises.

Mr. Vikramarka said a massive retaining wall is being constructed in Madhira to prevent flood water from entering into the town. Underground drainage and underground power cable works are under way in Madhira.

He said an ambitious project has been designed to explore the tourism potential of Wyra river by developing parks and recreational facilities.
