In a surprising turn of events, Urvashi theatre, one of Bengaluru’s iconic single screens, has re-opened, with the much-talked-about Dhurandhar: The Revengerunning to a full house in the theatre. After the expiry of the 45-year lease, it seemed like curtains would come down on the king-size theatre, but for now, it’s good news for fans. The Kannada rural drama Landlord, starring Duniya Vijay, was the last film screened in January 2026 before the theatre shut down operations following a court order. The High Court of Karnataka had directed the tenants to hand over the vacant land, by demolishing the existing buildings, to the landlords by February 15, 2026. There has been no official word on the latest development, but according to reports, the theatre owners have received a three-year extension of the lease. Regular patrons of Urvashi took to social media to express their relief. “We watched Dhurandhar 2 at Urvashi. We enquired at the ticket counter about the news of the theatre’s closure, and they said ‘Urvashi isn’t going anywhere’,” said one of the fans on Reddit.
