BADIGER Belagavi district administration has urged people to use LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, and other fuels judiciously, owing to the problems faced by the conflict in West Asia. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan assured the people that there was no scarcity of such fuel sources anywhere in the district, but advised against storage. He told reporters in Belagavi on Tuesday (March 24) that the district consumed around 25,000 domestic LPG cylinders per day. “Now we are getting 20,000 to 22,000 cylinders daily. The situation, however, is expected to improve in the coming days. People should not panic and stop making additional bookings in haste,’’ he said. He added that storing cylinders or petrol and diesel was unnecessary and could in fact be dangerous. “There are 35,000 PNG connections in Belagavi city, including residential and commercial users. Consumers should use the available fuel judiciously. We request all households and commercial units to limit their consumption to 60%,’’ he said. “The district needs 1,600 commercial cylinders daily, but 600 cylinders are being made available. We have held a meeting with representatives of the hotel owners’ association, following which, oil producing companies and have made cylinders available as per the demand. Officials have taken possession of 42 domestic cylinders that were being used for commercial purposes,’’ he said. “There is no shortage of petrol and diesel in Belagavi district. There are 560 petrol stations in the district, and around 50 in Belagavi city. They get fuel from three depots. If the city stations run out of fuel, there is a system to supply it within five hours,’’ he said.
