Members of the Brahmin Samaj Trust have complained to the district administration that some vested interests are trying to encroach lands of members of the community by using fake documents.

Several Brahmin families own ancestral lands in Belagavi district but reside outside the country and other States owing to employment, education, or other reasons. When there is a long gap between their visits to their properties, some miscreants are buying and selling them, using fake documents, without the knowledge or consent of the original owners.

A delegation met Mohammad Roshan on February 19 and submitted a memorandum seeking action against some government employees who may be involved in such activities. The letter said that senior officers like sub-registrars are involved in such cases and that strict legal action should be initiated against them. They asked the Deputy Commissioner to order a comprehensive inquiry into all such cases, in order to put a halt to such illegal practices. They demanded that the assets of families of victims should be restored and they should be given police protection.

Several miscreants are registering land transfer deeds by creating and using fake documents, false signatures, fake Aadhaar cards, or other documents. They are falsely claiming that some dead persons are alive. Revenue officers are completing the registration process without adequate verification. This has created an atmosphere of fear and concern in society.

Mr. Roshan assured the delegation that he would take steps to stop all illegal acts. He also promised appropriate legal action against the employees found responsible.

Trust president Ram Bhandare, vice-president Bharat Deshpande, community leaders like Ramesh Kulkarni, Vilas Joshi, and others were present.
