B. M. Jayashankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Adarsh Group, Bengaluru, on Wednesday told the graduating students that India’s growth story will not be written only in policy documents or boardrooms; it will be written through integrity, competence, courage and compassion. “You are the architects of the 21st century; you are entering a nation among the world’s fastest growing major economies,” he said.

In his address at the 8th convocation of the JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) at SJCE campus here, he advised the new graduates to build technologies that assist. “Create systems that are sustainable, not merely scalable. Innovation does not enhance human dignity. In your profession, do not become so absorbed in algorithms, machines or metrics that you forget the human dimension,” he suggested.

Mr. Jayashankar, a past student of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), also advised the graduating students to choose the hard right over the easy wrong. In an era where ethics in data, technology, governance and enterprise are constantly tested, be the professional society can trust, he said.

Stating that education is that foundation that is meant to build upon, the CMD said the moment you believe you have “arrived”, your growth stops. “Keep adding floors to your intellect; reinforce your skills and strengthen your competence continuously. Our greatest achievement is not concrete or steel. It is trust,” said Mr. Jayashankar, who also briefed how his company that is into construction business earned trust over decades.

While congratulating the students on their achievement, he said, “Today is not the conclusion. It is commissioning. You are being entrusted with responsibility.”

Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt , who is the chancellor of the JSS STU, declared the convocation open.

As many as 1,832 students graduated at the convocation and are set to begin a new journey in their lives. Among the candidates who received their degrees, 1,081 are Bachelor of Engineering graduates, 83 BCA graduates, 99 MCA graduates, 118 M. Sc. graduates, 218 MBA graduates, and 29 Doctor of Philosophy scholars. To honour academic excellence, 74 medals were awarded and they include 37 gold medals to branch toppers and 37 endowment medals for meritorious achievements.

JSS Mahavidyapeeta executive secretary C. G. Betsurmath administered oath to the graduating students. Earlier, JSS STU Vice-chancellor A. N. Santosh Kumar welcomed the guests and read out a report on the university’s achievements.

Dr. B. Suresh, director, Technical Education Division, JSS STU, registrar S. A. Dhanraj, controller of examinations P. Nanjundaswamy, academic council member and retired IPS officer Jija Madhavan Harisingh and others were present.

Excitement was writ large on the students’ faces as they received their degrees, with their proud parents by their side on this special occasion in their lives. Dressed in convocation attire, they congratulated one another and posed for selfies, capturing the unforgettable moment.
