Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar lashed out at the Congress government in the State alleging that the Revanth Reddy regime has achieved nothing except for undertaking ‘demolition spree’, ‘targeting’ poor people. He was speaking after launching development works in the 51st Division of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation here on Friday. In an oblique reference to the recent ‘demolition drive’ in Khammam, Mr. Sanjay said, “While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is striving to provide homes for the poor, the Congress dispensation in Telangana is focused on demolishing the houses of the underprivileged.” He said that the Narendra Modi-led Central government has built 4 crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana across the country. “Poor families built their homes after years of struggle and sacrifice. Why did officials not raise objections when those houses were being constructed? When poor families somehow manage to build small homes to survive, how could the government decide to demolish them?” Mr. Sanjay said. He further said, “The BJP would organise large-scale protests under the leadership of the party State president N. Ramchander Rao if the Congress government failed to stop the demolitions.” Mr. Sanjay slammed the Congress government for alleged delay in disbursement of funds under the Rythu Bharosa scheme to the farmers. “The Chief Minister had earlier announced that ₹9,000 crore would be released under the farmers’ investment support scheme soon after the municipal elections. But the funds have not yet been released,” he said.
