MANJUNATH Industries in and around Baikampady Industrial Area on Friday, dismissed charges that industrial effluent was causing the pollution of Phalguni (Gurupura) river downstream Maravoor vented dam in Mangaluru. The pollution was being caused owing to lack of underground drainage system in the Industrial Area as well as adjacent settlement areas, said Kanara Industries Association Vice President B. A. Iqbal. Speaking to reporters here along with representatives of various industries from Baikampady, Mr. Iqbal said that a proper UGD system is essential even in industrial areas. But it has not been implemented properly in Baikampady Industrial Area, and even if it has been implemented, it is not being maintained properly.
