A financial literacy awareness programme and financial inclusion walkathon was organised at the Tamukkam grounds in Madurai on Saturday.

The programme was organised by DHAN Foundation under the theme ‘Sustainable Financial Inclusion’. The event was organised as part of its annual public financial awareness initiatives, aimed at strengthening people’s understanding of savings, banking services, insurance, pensions, credit discipline, and digital financial systems.

According to the DHAN Foundation press release, the event is organised every year with focus on a core development theme. This year’s focus on Sustainable Financial Inclusion addressed the need to move beyond mere access to banking towards informed and responsible financial behaviour. The programme highlighted how proper utilisation of the banking services can enhance household economic security and contribute to the national economic development.

Around 3,500 people, including school and college students, rural and urban residents, members of community-based institutions and others participated in the event.
