RAJESH As more than 80% of the bike riders of this district do not wear helmet due to poor law enforcement, District Collector K. Elambahavath distributed pamphlets to the public detailing road safety rules and the need for wearing the helmet to save two-wheeler riders in case of accidents as he launched the month-long road safety month events here on Tuesday. After flagging-off the awareness bike rally near V.O.C. College, which was organised to stress the need for wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers, Mr. Elambahavath distributed the pamphlets to the public, particularly to those riding bikes without helmets. The Collector appealed to them to wear helmet always to save themselves in case of accidents. “Since head injury is the prime reason behind fatalities during accidents involving bikes, the riders including the pillion rider should always wear helmet,” Mr. Elambahavath said. A total of 100 bike riders with helmets reached the Old Harbour after traversing VVD Signal, Anna Statue Junction and V.O.C. Road. Additional Superintendent of Police Deepu, Regional Transport Officer Murugan, Inspector of Police, Transport Wing, William Benjamin and others were present.
