Autorickshaw fares in Tiruchi have seen a sharp increase following an acute shortage of LPG and a steep rise in fuel prices, with drivers citing unsustainable operating costs.

Of the nearly 15,000 autorickshaws in the city, around 9,000 run on auto LPG while about 2,000 depend on conventional LPG. The rest operate on diesel. In recent years, even mini-trucks transporting vegetables to Gandhi Market have shifted to gas, significantly increasing pressure on already strained LPG supplies.
