The campus of the Andhra University was put on alert after the principal of the AU Engineering College received a bomb threat via a hoax email. The university authorities informed the Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner, who directed the III Town police to take further action. Acting on the instructions, extensive searches were launched in all classrooms, hostels, laboratories, offices and open land of the university to rule out any potential threat. The bomb disposal and dog squads were also pressed into service and students and staff were asked to vacate and cooperate with the security teams. As a precautionary measure, police personnel restricted movement around the campus surroundings. During the searches, no suspicious objects were found. The III Town police have begun investigation to trace the source of the hoax email.
