Flagging procedural delays by affiliating universities, the Association of Self-Financing Arts, Science and Management Colleges of Tamil Nadu (ASFASMTN) has urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to effect an amendment to its regulations on conferment of autonomy for colleges to ensure the status is enjoyed from the specified date of approval. Espousing the cause of a large number of self-financing arts, science, and management colleges in Tamil Nadu, it represents, the association has stated that although the UGC regulations clearly empower the UGC to grant autonomous status after due scrutiny and recommendation by an expert committee, several colleges are facing practical and administrative difficulties in making autonomy operational at the institutional level, association secretary T. Sethupati said in a representation to the UGC.
