Elavenil Valarivan held off the challenge from Japan’s Misaki Nobata to clinch the women’s 10m air rifle gold in the Asian rifle/ pistol championships at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range here on Saturday. Meghana Sajjanar joined Elavenil on the podium after securing the bronze.

Shambhavi Kshirsagar, meanwhile, broke the Asian finals record on her way to winning gold in the junior women’s category. Manyata Singh and Aneesha Sharma, along with Shambhavi, ensured India swept the podium in this category.

India racked up 10 gold medals on the fourth day. The host’s overall tally grew to 43 medals, including 27 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze. Ojasvi Thakur secured gold in the women’s youth category.

India started the day by sweeping the 50m men’s pistol podium with Saurabh Chaudhary winning the gold. Kamaljeet Chaudhary and Ravinder Singh bagged silver and bronze, respectively.

Elavenil was placed fifth after the end of the second series, but gradually clawed her way back into the lead by the 18th shot. She kept her composure until the end to remain at the top of the pack.

In the junior 10m air rifle finals, Shambhavi finished with 253.7. She was at her best from the start, and her last eight shots read 10.7, 10.7, 10.8, 10.8, 10.9, 10.5, 10.9 and 10.7.
