All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi accused the Congress, currently in power, and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which ruled Telangana for a decade, of doing little or nothing whenever communal tensions or conflagrations erupted in the State.

Mr. Owaisi was speaking at a public meeting in Mahabubnagar on the final day of campaigning.

Listing a series of communal incidents from towns across Telangana, Mr. Owaisi raised concerns over the fact that they were happening in Telangana. Questioning the role of the ruling party and the previous regime, he asked where their leaders were during these moments of crisis.

Referring to the Jainoor incident of 2024, Mr. Owaisi said the town witnessed a social boycott of Muslims for 25 days. During this period, he said that shops were shut, supplies were blocked, entry from outside was restricted and internet services were suspended.

He said 110 shops were either burnt or damaged and claimed that financial assistance was extended to affected traders through RTGS from the Majlis charitable account after collecting their bank details.

Targeting both the Congress and BRS, he said their leaders were absent when the community was facing hunger, social boycott and destruction of livelihoods. He also referred to communal tensions in Medak town, alleging that leaders of the two parties did not visit the affected areas.

Mr. Owaisi further cited an incident in Daulatabad, near Vikarabad, where, he alleged, members of the Bajrang Dal attacked women and damaged businesses following a procession-related dispute. He said local residents had approached him for help, following which party representatives were sent to the area.

He reiterated that to combat such issues, a political leadership of the Muslims has to be created.
