A 53-year-old Babu of Permude village in the neighbouring Kasaragod taluk (Kerala) is a senior performer in ‘Bhootaradhane’. Unfortunately, his left leg had to be amputated due to health-related reasons. But Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central, which emerged as a good samaritan, has now ensured that Mr. Babu can walk with an artificial limb.

According to Devdas Rai, a doctor and Rotary’s Past District Governor, Mr. Babu was provided with the artificial limb, which costs ₹2.20 lakh.

Dr. Rai said Mr. Babu, who approached him, revealed his health and financial problems and sought financial help in order to afford an artificial limb. “His case was considered on humanitarian grounds. The matter was taken up with the Executive Committee of Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central, which sanctioned the amount under the club’s community service projects,” the doctor said.

He was fitted with the artificial limb at Dr. Rai’s Sourabh Clinic recently. The Rotary Club secretary Vikas Kotian and past president Santhosh Shet were present on the occasion.

“Now Mr. Babu is moving freely with the help of the artificial limb. He has expressed his deep gratitude to the Rotary Club,” the doctor said.
