The State government has extended the suspension of former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata, in the case of arrest of actress Kadambari Jethwani.

Mr. Kanthi Rana, currently under suspension, is reported to have failed to supervise the investigation before issuing orders to his subordinates to arrest Ms. Jethwani and her parents, in an alleged forgery and extortion case filed by Ibrahimpatnam police in 2024.

The Review Committee recommended extension of suspension of the IPS officer as per the provision in Rule 3 (3) of All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, until the termination of criminal proceedings or up to September 4, 2026, which ever is earlier.

The committee opined that revoking suspension at this point of time will enable the officer to tamper with the evidence and influence the process of inquiry and investigation of the case, since he holds the high rank.

The State government on Saturday (March 7) issued orders extending the suspension of Mr. Kanthi Rana Tata, as the investigation of the case under Ibrahimpatnam police station of NTR Police Commissionerate is pending.
