Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) has cracked the whip on erring purified water supplying plants for illegally and indiscriminately drawing excess power to run their units. The issue came to light during the ‘Dial your APSPDCL CMD’ phone-in programme conducted on Monday, when its Chairman and Managing Director Sivashankar Lotheti received a call from a person from Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district. The caller complained about two such water plants drawing power from the grid in an unauthorised manner. It came as a shock to the officials when the person informed them that the power supply to the units had been disconnected due to outstanding power bill dues amounting to lakhs of rupees, but they had managed to draw power illegally. Mr. Lotheti directed the officials to investigate the case and initiate action on the plants as well as the erring officials for their inaction or possible complicity. “Anyone working against the interests of the company will have to face action,” he warned. As many as 50 power consumers from across Rayalaseema region called to register their grievances to the CMD.
