Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) Visakhapatnam circle head G. Shyambabu on Monday urged people to take adequate precautions against electrical accidents during the Sankranti and Kanuma festivals while flying kites. He cautioned: “Fly kites only in areas free from power lines and electric poles. Do not touch torn kites hanging on power lines, electric poles, or transformers.” He added: “If any electrical accident occurs while flying kites, immediately inform the electricity department staff or call 1912 and follow the appropriate precautions as per the standard regulations of the electricity company. Children flying kites, should do so under the supervision of adults and only in areas free from power lines and electric poles.” He stressed that in regards to electricity related problems, people must contact only the relevant electricity department staff, and not private individuals. “When installing flex banners, install them away from power wires/lines. Exercise caution when removing flex banners. When flying kites on rooftops, check the nearby power lines and then fly kites,” he said.
