The methods adopted by the State government to raise awareness on World Hypertension Day, observed on May 17, have received national recognition and appreciation. In a press statement released on Monday (March 16, 2026), Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G. Veerapandian said that while State governments across the country conduct awareness programmes every year, last year the Union government issued guidelines on how these programmes should be conducted from May 17 to June 16.

In Andhra Pradesh, programmes such as speeches, folk songs, short films, Burrakatha performances, rallies, and competitions for students helped the State secure the top position, the official said, noting that the announcement was made by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Details of the month-long activities were digitally submitted to the Union government by each State. These reports were examined by a special expert committee set up by the Ministry. Following the evaluation, the latest rankings announced by the Union government placed Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in first place, according to the statement.
