In the wake of the recent bus accident at Markapuram in Andhra Pradesh that claimed 14 lives, the State government has stepped up measures to prevent road accidents, with a special focus on private bus operations. Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy on Monday said stringent inspections are being carried out across the State to curb violations.

In an official statement issued from the Tadepalli camp office, the Minister directed authorities to take strict action against private buses operating with excess load and those illegally transporting commercial goods. He said such practices pose a serious threat to passenger safety.

According to the Minister, a total of 976 buses were inspected across the State on Sunday. Of these, 193 buses lacking proper documentation were booked and penalties imposed. Special enforcement drives are under way at 16 key points, including toll plazas and checkposts.

Officials have been instructed to continue surprise inspections without relaxation. The Minister made it clear there would be zero tolerance for violations of safety norms. Reiterating the government’s commitment, he said passenger safety remains the top priority and urged operators and drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules.
