The 1966 batch of Andhra Medical College (AMC) and the alumni association Andhra Medical College Alumni of North America (AMCANA) have donated six advanced Maquet ventilators to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at King George Hospital (KGH), here on Wednesday (February 11).

The donation is valued at approximately ₹48 lakh. The equipment was handed over by alumni members Nagula Sitaramaiah and G. Guruprasad. These modern ventilators come equipped with specialised humidifier systems designed to provide superior respiratory support for infants and children in critical condition. This addition will significantly improve the quality of treatment and reduce the severity of respiratory illnesses among young patients, they added.

Visakhapatnam District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad formally inaugurated the machines and handed them over to the paediatric department.

B.S. Chakravarthy, head of the paediatrics department, said that these ventilators would not only strengthen critical care services but also serve as an excellent training tool for medical students to learn about advanced life-support technology.

AMC former students and teaching professionals, including T. Ravi Raju, P.V. Sudhakar, T. Radha, Pedaveeraju and V.V.G. Mohan attended the event, according to I. Vani, KGH superintendent.
