Venkatachalapathy Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani on Thursday (February 12, 2026) urged the Tamil Nadu government to consider the slew of demands including an increase in monthly salary, put forth by guest lecturers working in government arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu. In a statement, he said over 9,000 guest lecturers were working in 180 government arts and science colleges. They have been staging protests in various parts of the State for the past four days. Their demands include a hike in monthly salary as recommended by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and an increase in retirement benefits up to ₹25 lakh. He also condemned the Tamil Nadu government for not initiating talks with the protesters to find an amicable solution. Referring to provisions in multiple court orders passed regarding the matter, he said the DMK government had failed to implement those orders, particularly those related to increase in wages. He contended the salaries of guest lecturers in some States were higher than those in Tamil Nadu, which, according to him, provides the least. He urged the State government to consider fulfilling the demands of guest lecturers at the earliest.
