Rajahmundry Central Prison authorities on Monday released former Water Resources Minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu for a day on a Prisoner Transfer (PT) warrant issued by the Guntur police to produce him before a local court in a case related to protests against the privatisation of medical colleges.

The YSRCP leader is a remand prisoner lodged in the prison in connection with a case registered in Guntur on February 2 for allegedly abusing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and obstructing the police from discharging their duties.

Rajahmundry Central Prison Superintendent S. Rahul told The Hindu that Mr. Rambabu would be readmitted to the prison on February 9
