A total of 222 families involved in illicit distilled liquor trade in the district have come forward to choose alternate livelihood opportunities. District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya, who reviewed the action plan for rehabilitation of families involved in ID liquor trade under Navodaya 2.0 programme, asked officials to provide alternate livelihood to those who want to wean away from ID liquor trade. Ms Rajakumari Ganiya said alternate livelihood should be provided to the 222 families based on the educational qualifications of the members of the family. Women will be given training in handlooms, tailoring, manufacturing paper cups and jute bags and DRDA and MEPMA departments were asked to form Self-Help Groups with the women. Male members will be trained in animal husbandry and honey making process. She asked the Excise department officials to collect the complete details of the families that came forward to take up alternate livelihood. Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya said 19 each villages are under A and B category in terms of ID liquor brewing while 91 villages are falling under C Category.
