Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha district unit and its women’s wing will celebrate Akka Mahadevi Jayanti in Kalaburagi on Saturday. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, district president of the mahasabha women’s wing Nalini Mahagaonkar said that the programme aims to commemorate the life and teachings of the 12th century social reformer and poet Akka Mahadevi. President of Sharanabasaveshwara Vidya Vardhak Sangha Dakshayini S. Appa will preside over the function. Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University in Vijayapura Vijaya Korishetti will inaugurate the Jayanti Utsav. Head of the Kannada Department at Central University of Karnataka Shivaganga Rumma will deliver a special lecture. Chairperson of Reshmi Education Institute Bharati Reshmi and chairperson of the Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee Chandrika Parmeshwar will be the chief guests. Five women achievers from different fields will be felicitated. They are Bhagyashree Sharanprakash Patil (healthcare), Amareshwari Baburao Chinchansur (business), Surekha Rajkumar (agriculture), Parveen Sultana (literature) and Mala Kanni (social service).
