AIPWA condemns Jnanpith Award for lyricist Vairamuthu

The All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) condemned the move to honour Tamil poet, author and film lyricist Vairamuthu with the Jnanpith Award and demanded that the award be immediately cancelled for him.

In a statement the association said, “This award is dishonoring, delegitimising and disempowering all those brave women who despite all odds, raised the issue of his sexual misconduct from the time of #Metoo movement in 2018.”
