The Communist Party of India (M) on Sunday criticised the ruling AINRC-BJP combine in Puducherry alleging it had done nothing substantial to the people in the last five years and had failed on all fronts.

Speaking to reporters, CPI (M) politburo member K. Balakrishnan said grant of full Statehood for Puducherry remained merely an announcement. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice L. Murugan, who visited Puducherry, claimed that good governance has prevailed here over the last five years and that the NDA would secure a massive victory in the upcoming elections.

But in reality, no good governance has taken place during these five years. The ruling AINRC-BJP Government has miserably failed and has not fulfilled even one of its promises. Now, they are suddenly announcing industrial development schemes. Over five years, they have done nothing to reopen the closed factories. Puducherry has been languishing without industrial growth and there are no job opportunities, he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan said the Government’s lone achievement was the counterfeit drug case. This government has failed on every front. The Puducherry Government promised to transform the Union Territory, but instead increased liquor outlets while Puducherry’s debt has increased considerably.

The CPI (M) will be mobilising farmers and other sections of people by organising a protest march on February 20 from Villianur and Ariyankuppam to the Legislative Assembly.

Referring to the Union Budget, he said there was nothing substantial and allocations for several sectors have been reduced from last year.
